What Is Varnish Used For in UV DTF Printing?

Varnish can be used as a transparent layer in compatible UV DTF printing configurations. Depending on the printer and RIP setup, the varnish channel may be incorporated into the printed design as part of the overall ink-layer structure.

The exact appearance and use of the varnish layer depend on the printer configuration, RIP settings, print profile, film system, and production process.

For Multi-Channel UV DTF Ink Systems

Varnish is generally used as part of a broader UV DTF ink configuration rather than as a standalone printing ink. Compatible systems may combine CMYK color channels with White and Varnish according to the printer’s ink-channel setup.

Using Varnish with White Ink

White and Varnish serve different functions within a UV DTF ink system. White ink is used as a dedicated opaque layer, while Varnish is used as a clear layer in supported print configurations.

If your printer also requires a dedicated white ink channel, see our UV DTF Ink - White 1 Liter.

Check Compatibility Before Use

UV DTF printers can use different ink formulations, printheads, channel layouts, and ink-delivery systems. Confirm that your printer is designed to use a varnish channel and that this ink is appropriate for your specific setup before filling the system.

If you are switching from another varnish or ink formulation, follow the printer or ink-system manufacturer’s procedures for changing ink and maintaining the system.
